With a population of about 2,300, many citizens of the Homewood neighborhood face challenges such as poverty and crime - often the things highlighted in the media and conversations about Homewood. What we have found is that there is a community spirit, pride and love that is contagious! Pittsburgh 2nd Service Platoon, more commonly known as "Homewood Platoon", is led by Navy veteran, Derrick Clark; a childhood native of the Homewood community who is empowered and inspired to serve the neighborhood he grew up in. Homewood Platoon has partnered with community based organizations such as Homewood Community Sports and Operation Better Block, that foster environmental, educational and recreational interfaces between the children of Homewood and their community. In helping to refurbish and improve existing structures and lots that support youth in the neighborhood, the platoon assists these local organizations in delivering both effective developmental programming and a communication of worth and love to the children of the community. Join Homewood Platoon and come serve alongside of some of Pittsburgh's finest veterans, community members and citizens!
