The O’ahu Platoon focuses its efforts confronting chronic conditions of homelessness, food insecurity and other intersections of inequity gaps in the communities of Southeast O’ahu – zip code 96786, while continuing to cultivate and build relationships with local military and veteran community (https://www.unitedstateszipcodes.org/96786/). We practice kokua in our interactions with other nonprofits and offer our malama in our joint efforts to preserve indigenous culture and address inequities. An ongoing operation has shifted to form new partnerships beginning with Wahiawa Middle School at its community farm. In addition, the service platoon continues to commit to connect youth and families with creating opportunities in environmental stewardship such as adopting a portion of Blaisdell Park Pearl Harbor Historic Trail, assisting in the WWII encampment excavation at Honouliuli National Monument, and overgrowth clearing at Heritage Park. The work promises to be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. We hope to see you soon. Mahalo Nui Loa.
