Service Project

Building Urban Farms in NYC with Harlem Grown!

October 03, 2020

11:00 AM - 03:00 PM EDT

New York City Platoon

Event overview

Harlem Grown's mission is to inspire youth to lead healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition. Harlem Grown operates local urban farms, increase access to and knowledge of healthy food and provide food to the community. The urban farm at 131st street, which has historically been used to to teach kids, has come under disrepair and needs to be revamped so that it can be better utilized to grow food and be more acceptable to youth when programming becomes available. So The Mission Continues is going to make that happen! We are going to be constructing a new urban farm for Harlem Grown that better utilizes the space and creates more farming garden bed space in the lot. So join us to continue to make NYC better! Charlie Mike!

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
