Salute to Service Volunteer Day

November 02, 2019

09:00 AM - 01:00 PM EDT

Miami Platoon

Event overview

The Mission Continues Miami 1st Service Platoon has been working at Seminole Wayside for over a year helping to bring the park back to the community. Lack of funding and resources made it extremely difficult to maintain this park and its beautiful nature preserve pine rockland habitat. Over the years the park became plagued with debris and trash, however with the help of the Miami 1st Service Platoon, community volunteers, love, and tons of sweat equity the park has been revived and is becoming a great destination for families in South Dade and the neighboring military base. On Nov. 2nd, 2019 please join the Miami 1st Service Platoon, Miami-Dade Parks and United Way of Miami-Dade as we continue beautification efforts at this park. We will be removing some trash/debris in the park and the nature preserve, removing invasive plants species, and planting new native plants. We will also be decorating rain barrels for rain water collection to promote water conservation/recycling. This is a family friendly event that will include an educational nature walk along the walking trail around the preserve for volunteers and their families along with additional family fun and activities.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
