100,000 Pound Cabbage Harvest!

Event overview

On Saturday, May 18th, we have a goal to harvest 100,000 pounds of cabbage grown by our very own San Antonio Food Bank at Mission San Juan Farm. If we meet our goal, 1.1 million servings of fresh, healthy cabbage will be available for people in need. We will meet as a group at the large stone sign just outside the grassy area. Gardens are located just off of the acequia trail, a short walk past the mission. Day's schedule: 7-8am - Bike from Blue Star to Harvest (wheels down at 7!) 8-8:20am – Welcome 8:20-10:50am - Cabbage Harvest 10:50-11:10am - Clean up and Closing message 11:10-11:40am - Ranger available for tour This harvest will also include 500 volunteers and vendors from the San Antonio community! About Mission San Juan Farm: The Mission San Juan Community Farm is a unique partnership between the San Antonio Food Bank and the National Park Service. Our mission is to grow and distribute as much food as possible to our community, while empowering clients, school kids, volunteers, and anyone else who wants to learn more about growing food at home with skills they need to do so.

Please wear your TMC shirt, shoes (preferably boots) and clothes that will keep you comfortable and you do not mind getting dirty.

Inclement Weather

Volunteer sessions may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather. Should a cancellation occur, you will be notified via email 24 hours in advance.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.  

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon? 

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively. 

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
