Thank It Forward - Tampa

May 29, 2020

12:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT

Tampa Platoon

Event overview

Veterans and their families are used to being thanked for their service, especially during Military Appreciation Month in May, and it’s time for us to #ThankItForward. We know that under-resourced communities will be especially impacted by issues like food insecurity, economic inequality and access to essential resources, and our partners are hard at work to remain open and support their communities. In response to COVID-19, The Mission Continues is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving alongside essential community organizations that are on the frontlines. Together, veteran leaders and volunteers are making a positive, long-lasting impact in our communities. Join us today and #ThankItForward by sharing your message of thanks with the organizations in your community. This is an opportunity to share gratitude and stand in solidarity with these hometown heroes. We are here for them today, and will be here for them long after this pandemic has passed to aid in their recovery. In Tampa, we plan to #ThankItForward during the month of May by flooding our partner Trinity Café/Feeding Tampa Bay with love. During this Covid-19 crisis, Trinity Café/Feeding Tampa Bay has continued to work hard to ensure meals and healthy food make it out those most in need. Remotely, but as a team, we'll send homemade cards, personal notes, and "thank you" coloring pages from our smallest and most creative platoon members! Sign up to participate below, and receive instructions on how to help us say Thank You to Trinity Café/Feeding Tampa Bay from the comfort and safety of your own home!

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
