Volunteering at Tough Ruck 2019

April 14, 2019

12:30 PM - 07:00 PM EDT

Boston Platoon

Event overview

Tough Ruck is group of military and civilians whose sole purpose is to Ruck in honor and in memory of our Fallen Service Members, Police, Firefighters and EMTs, while raising funds to support military families in times of need. We will walk a 26.2 mile course with our Rucks and carry the names of our Fallen comrades with us. We are proud to announce the continuation of our partnership with the Boston Athletic Association, the National Park Service and the Old Manse. On April 15, 2013, the Tough Ruck members were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and joined the first responders to help those that were injured by the horrific blasts. They truly exemplify the best of what our Nation is. Today the Ruck happens the Saturday before Boston Marathon Monday in Concord, Massachusetts. Each year Ruckers are awarded the first of the official Boston Marathon Medals and receive recognition from the Boston Athletic Association. The Mission Continues Boston and Lowell Platoons will be teaming up to volunteer for Tough Ruck 2019. There are two shifts we will have for the day: 1:00-6:30PM - Finish Line Weigh Station, Weigh Rucker Bags & determine top finishers and qualifiers | 10 volunteers needed 5:00-7:00PM - Breakdown and Clean-up | 10 volunteers needed This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome, but for the weigh station we are looking for ages 14+.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
