Service Project

MLK Day of Service 2019

January 26, 2019

08:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST

Cleveland Platoon

Event overview

Join us as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy of service by continuing our service to the youth of Cleveland. The Challenge: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland encourage children and their parents to take books home to read. They found that children wouldn't take books on regular bookcases and that they would take them if left on a table, but it was always a mess! The Answer: A small bookcase easily positioned for children and parents to access it. The Task: The platoon will be constructing small bookcases for several of the clubs around the city to use for the free books being offered to children and their parents! The Motivation: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
