Brothers & Sisters!! Where will you be Nov. 3rd 2018?? In Honor of Veterans Day, The Mission Continues Orlando 1st & 2nd Service Platoons will host more than 100 volunteers coming together from across the Sunshine State to support Puerto Rican evacuee families. When Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico last year, thousands of families were forced to evacuate to Central Florida with only their most personal possessions in tow, meaning many left behind heavier items such as furniture in the process. Now, one year later, as they transition out of short-term emergency housing and into more stable long-term housing, we have an opportunity to help bring a sense of dignity and normalcy back to these families. So, for the first time ever, all six of our FL Service Platoons from Orlando’s 1st & 2nd, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, and Broward County, will be joining forces for an amazing day of service! We will be building furniture in support of the more than 2,000 Puerto Rican evacuee families seeking refuge in Central Florida, and in doing so, reaffirming our commitment to serving our neighbors in their time of need. Specifically, we will be building children's desks/chairs, 2-drawer dressers and kitchen tables as well as preparing “Welcome Home” kits to include hygiene items, linens, children's books, and more.
