Platoon Leader Summit Service Project

September 22, 2018

08:00 AM - 11:30 AM CDT

Houston Platoon

Event overview

Mercer Botanic Gardens was significantly impacted not only by Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017 but also by flooding in the prior two years. Our partnership with Mercer will allow us to clear 4.5 acres of overgrown vegetation, tree stumps, sand and silt, and rebuild greenhouse tables damaged by high winds and floodwaters. Our goal is to clear specific flood-ravaged areas with the infusion of 100 Mission Continues volunteers. The affected acreage which includes a small lake, benches, plant collections and teahouse, has not been accessible to the public in over two years. With our assistance, this part of Mercer will be several months closer to a public reopening. Breakfast and snacks will be provided. We hope that you will be able to serve alongside us as we make an impact at Mercer Botanic Gardens and for the surrounding community.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
