Austin Platoon

Event overview

This year marks the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and The Mission Continues is issuing a call to serve and stand UNITED. Mission Continues Service Platoons nationwide are organizing service projects for veterans and local volunteers to come together, make a difference in their community, and remember those who served and sacrificed in the wake of 9/11. Austin 1st Platoon is honoring this day by serving with the Mary Lee Foundation at their campus in South Austin. It's difficult to describe their efforts in any brevity. They serve those with low income, the homeless, the intellectually disabled, those with traumatic brain injuries, and many veterans too. They provide day programs, residence programs, affordable housing and so much more. The Mary Lee Foundation has spent over 50 years doing their best to improve the livelihood and dignity of those in need. We as a platoon are lucky to be able to help. United by the common bond of service, volunteers will tackle projects that will help improve dignity for the residents of this community! Painting is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make smiles, so expect to do plenty of painting. We will also help with upkeep in the garden areas and common spaces. There is plenty to do and there are more events in the works. Join us, this is the beginning of something special.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
