Community First! Village Upkeep

July 28, 2018

09:00 AM - 12:00 PM CDT

Austin Platoon

Event overview

Join us to serve at Community First! Village. Community First! Village is a 27-acre master planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas, including veterans. A development of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, this transformative residential program exists to love and serve our neighbors who have been living on the streets, while also empowering the surrounding community into a lifestyle of service with the homeless. Please meet at the front office of Unity Hall to check in and get a name tag! This serve event may entail laying pathways, harvesting our gardens, tending the chicken coop, dry landscaping yards of our micro-homes, etc. We ask that everyone come wearing the proper clothing to ensure a safe day at work and require that each volunteer wear long pants, a short sleeve shirt, close toed shoes (boots HIGHLY recommended) and always recommend a hat, bug spray and/or sunscreen for the outdoors. All volunteers under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian while serving at the village. All volunteers are required to register with both Mobile Loaves and Fishes and Austin 1st Service Platoon. Please copy and paste the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Registration in your browser: https://mlf.secure.force.com/volunteers/GW_Volunteers__VolunteersJobListingFS?jobId=a0d1Y00000DFHRi&nMonthstoShow=12

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
