National Rebuilding Day

April 28, 2018

08:00 AM - 04:00 PM CDT

Austin Platoon

Event overview

Rebuilding Together has declared the last Saturday in April as National Rebuilding Day. On this day and over the weekend, thousands of volunteers throughout the country join together to provide critical and life-saving repairs for vulnerable families in our communities. Rebuilding Together Austin has been working with Ms. Ockletree and her home will be the featured project for National Rebuilding Day. April 28th is also Ms. Ockletree’s birthday! Austin 1st Platoon and Rebuilding Together Austin will join forces to make her birthday one to be remembered. Ms. Ockletree is 83, taking care of three young teens, and her spirit is contagious. Her home is in need of the repairs that RTA specializes in. Already, contractors have been completing additional projects in her home including: a new roof, installing an HVAC system and making her bathroom more safe and easily accessible. Y'all, we had a fantastic time on demo day. We got straight to it, overcame the inevitable obstacles, and accomplished more than we set out to do. Now it's time to finish the job! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the main event on April 28th, we will build the fence at Ms. Ockletree's home. The following tasks will be completed: - Accomplishing anything that wasn't completed on previous projects - Building and hanging the new fence. - Debris removal. - Painting Y'all, this is the main event! Come on out and join us in service to Ms. Ockletree!

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
