Trail Work Feb 15 - Ages 16 and up only

February 15, 2025

07:45 AM - 12:00 PM PST

Orange County Platoon

Event overview

Love hiking? Ready for physical challenge? Join the OC Platoon for fun day of hard work mainting the trails at Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park in Laguna. Be prepared to hike up to 4 miles while carrying tools. For logistical purposes, the number of participants is limited so please make sure everyone in your party registers individually. Our host will provide transport from the parking area to the work site, so space is limited. If after you reserve your spot, you realize you cannot attend, please cancel your reservation via email to kpugh@missioncontinues.org so that the reservation will be available for another volunteer. If you use the wilderness parks for hiking, biking, photography or just relaxing, Trail Stewardship might be right up your alley! This is FUN hard work. Whatever your skill level is, there is a job to do: clearing drains to get the water off of the trail, pruning vegetation back to keep users on the trail, moving dirt to rebuild eroded tread, and restoring impacted areas are just some of the tasks we will accomplish. We will be using tools such as loppers, picks, shovels, and McLeods to improve the user experience, protect the fragile habitat and increase the sustainability of our trails. Minimum age of 16 years old accompanied by a parent/guardian. Participants must bring plenty of WATER, closed-toed hiking shoes, and sun protection and gloves if you have them. Location: Hollyleaf cul-de-sac, Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. (Where West Ridge Trail meets Hollyleaf, near 65 Hollyleaf, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656) Parking: Free street parking. Follow all street signs and park legally. Parking is limited, carpooling is encouraged. Difficulty Rating: 3/5 Advanced registration required. Every individual, including children, must be registered. Group sizes are minimized for safety purposes. Participants must individually sign a waiver at the beginning of the program. For participants under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
