3rd Platoon Earth Day Event 2024

April 27, 2024

09:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT

Atlanta Platoon

Event overview

I'm excited to invite you to join us for a meaningful service project at Oak View Elementary School in Decatur, GA, on April 27th, organized by The Mission Continues Atlanta Platoon. Together, we'll roll up our sleeves and make a lasting impact on our community. No matter the weather, we're committed to showing up and making a difference. Please come dressed in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, as we'll be working rain or shine. Here's what we have planned: Painting and Repairing the Outdoor Classroom: We'll breathe new life into the outdoor classroom, creating a vibrant and welcoming space for students to engage with nature and learn outdoors. Removing the Old Garden and Installing New Planter Boxes: Out with the old, in with the new! We'll remove the old garden and replace it with brand new planter boxes, providing a fresh start for gardening activities and educational projects. Planting a Pollinator Garden: Let's support biodiversity and environmental education by planting a pollinator garden. This garden will not only beautify the school grounds but also provide valuable habitat for pollinators like bees and butterflies. Our goal is to make Oak View Elementary School a safe and inspiring space for children to learn and for teachers to decompress. By coming together as a community, we can make a real difference in the lives of students and educators alike. Please mark your calendars for April 27th and spread the word to friends and family who might be interested in joining us. Together, we can create positive change and leave a lasting legacy in our neighborhood.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
