6th Annual Fish Creek Cleanup / MLK Day of Service

February 24, 2024

08:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST

DFW Platoon

Event overview

Join us for our cleanup along the 8 miles of paved Fish Creek Linear Trail and Fish Creek that runs 8 miles through Arlington and Grand Prairie. We have something for everyone! Can't pick up trash? We need volunteers to help assist people checking in, handing out t-shirts, and giving directions. Want to get down and dirty? Wear some rainboots or waders and it's perfect for being in the creek. There are wooded areas, 2 parks and a school. From styrofoam cups and bags to grocery carts and tires, we have something for all levels of physical participation. Not only do we remove litter and trash from the environment, we are improving our neighborhoods, community and world all while honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is a great event for veterans to come together as well as families, groups, individuals, and those needing volunteer hours. We will meet at Craven's Park and disperse from there. Craven's Park has ample parking and restrooms. Look for us at the gazebo by the tennis courts. Breakfast, bags, gloves, and some limited tools will be provided. Long sleeves, long pants, and closed toe shoes recommended. Preferably water proof footwear or something you don't mind getting wet and/or dirty. It is a great learning opportunity for anyone of any age but in particular for our youth that teaches where litter goes after it's thrown out the car window and how it affects the environment and community.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
