Women Veterans Clothing Drive

December 02, 2023

07:30 AM - 12:00 PM CST

DFW Platoon

Event overview

The Women RISE {Recover In Supportive Environment} program is located in Waco, Texas. They serve women veterans from all over the United States and territories such as Puerto Rico. Many of the women who come to WRISE throughout the year arrive with only the clothes on their back. The most demand comes in June and December. This is our first clothing drive with biannual drives anticipated the first Saturday in June and the first Saturday in December. We have no plans to collect in advance and ask that all donations are delivered on the day of the event. The volunteers we are looking for can unload donations from vehicles and load the UHaul{s} that will be making the drive from DFW to Waco. Volunteers for the event are asked to register in advance. Let us know if you want to participate in delivery in Waco. It is about an hour and 20 minutes from our donation location to the WRISE unit in Waco. Volunteers are asked to be at St. Andrews, checked in, and ready to go at 7:30 am. We will stop the line when the trucks are full or 12 noon. 30 minutes to finish loading trucks and clean the area. Leaving at 12:30 means we should be at Waco and ready to deliver by 2 pm. Allowing for time to unload and all that comes with delivery, we should be able to leave between 3 and 3:30 and be back in DFW by 5 pm. This event is for volunteering at SAUMC for delivery. If you want to help with delivery in Waco, that will be separately. The delivery will stop at 12 and we are allowing 30 minutes to finish loading, clean up, and pack up. Dress for the weather.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
