Join NYC H2O along with the Natural Resources Protective Association and Council Member Carr for a volunteer cleanup at Oakwood Beach!
This event is happening as part of the 12th annual Riverkeeper Sweep! Every year, thousands of volunteers come together across hundreds of miles of shoreline in New York City and the Hudson Valley for the Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers clean up tons of trash, plant healthy vegetation, and remove invasive plant species at more than 100 locations.
Oakwood Beach and adjoining wetlands deal with a double-edged sword of being a secret to most of Staten island. The site holds one of the highest density populations of Osprey seen on the Island. While the wildlife holds strong, the few people that are around, and the close proximity to a waste plant, brings in a huge amount of trash.
