MLK Day of Service: Operation Warm Embrace

January 14, 2024

01:00 PM - 04:00 PM EST

Boston Platoon

Event overview

The Mission Continues - Boston Platoon will be joining the Travis Manion Foundation - New England for Operation Warm Embrace: Blankets of Love for MLK Day of Service. This Operation Legacy project is a heartwarming opportunity for volunteers of all ages to come together and create cozy blankets for children in need through Project Linus.

Project Linus is a non-profit organization that provides handmade blankets to children in need. The organization was founded in 1995 by Karen Loucks, inspired by the "Peanuts" comic character Linus, who is often seen carrying a security blanket. The mission of Project Linus is to offer comfort and security to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need of a sense of warmth and security.

Agenda for the day:
Blanket-Making: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Social: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Project Details:
Mission: Craft comforting blankets for children in need in honor of MLK Day of Service.
Materials: We'll provide all the necessary materials—just bring your warm spirit and a willingness to create something special.

Family-Friendly: This event is family-friendly, so feel free to register and bring your loved ones to join in the giving spirit.
Social at the Bar: After our heartwarming project, we'll continue the camaraderie with a social in the bar area from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It's a fantastic opportunity to unwind, share stories, and connect with fellow volunteers in this family-friendly establishment.

Let's come together to make a positive impact and spread warmth in our community. Your participation will not only create blankets but also memories of kindness and service.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
