DFW Platoon

Event overview

Please join TMC and the Dallas/Fort Worth Platoon for our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Project. Volunteers will be participating in the 5th annual Fish Creek Clean Up Challenge, beautifying 8 miles of the Fish Creek Linear Trail. Volunteers will meet at Craven's Park and disperse from there along the 8 miles of linear trail. In previous years volunteers removed over 14 1/2 tons of trash from Fish Creek, Fish Creek Linear Trail, connected parks, and surrounding wooded areas. With support from the City of Arlington and the City of Grand Prairie, all volunteers will need to do is bag it up and get it to the paved trail or nearest designated area. Check-in will start at 8 AM. The cleanup will begin at 8:30. Lunch afterward starting at noon. Come for 30 minutes or all day. Some tools will be provided as well as bags and gloves. Lunch and bottled water provided but we ask that in efforts to help conserve the environment that you bring a filled reusable container of water. With 8 miles there is LOTS of room to social distance! Gift card prizes for various categories. Must be present to win. We will also be holding a food drive. Participation is not required for you to donate canned goods or other nonperishable items. Donations will benefit Arlington Charities.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
