Where We’re Serving
Join us for a day of service on Wednesday, June 14th at Quest Veterans Village!
Quest Community Development Organization offers permanent supportive housing to special needs homeless and low-income individuals. Quest’s supportive services include financial planning, educational and vocational training. The Quest communities include a Veterans Village, a 12-unit garden-style apartment unit reserved for veterans. Our Atlanta 1st Service Platoon, sponsored by both the Blank and Home Depot Foundations, is partnered with Quest, and seeks to engage the residents of the Veterans’ Village in service opportunities throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Ultimately, we hope that the Quest veterans will become platoon members, and even leadership team members in time.
What We’ll Be Doing
The Veterans Village sits next to a steep retaining wall that is overgrown and unattractive. The current landscaping prevents Quest veteran residents from enjoying the limited outdoor green space that surrounds the Veterans Village. Our participants will be transforming their outdoor space, adding a grill area, installing a rainwater catchment system, and upgrading their veteran memorial. The bigger goal, though, is to involve the Quest veteran residents in the projects, instilling a sense of pride and ownership in the work, and ensuring that it is sustainable.
The Activities
There’s a purpose behind each project at Quest Veterans Village! Check out the various activities taking place throughout the day:
Let’s honor - Help upgrade the existing veteran memorial to support community pride.
Let’s beautify - Clear the backyard and start fresh by repairing the retaining wall and landscaping
for an outdoor transformation.
Let’s socialize - Get out the grill, but first create a communal area with picnic tables and benches
for residents to enjoy.
Let’s build - Install a rainwater catchment system to support the landscaping and gardening and add seating throughout the grounds.
Let’s grow - Create a community garden and transform the limited outdoor space into something useable and beautiful.
The Service Impact
This is a project about veterans working to support other veterans. Of the many activities throughout the day, the greatest goal will be to connect with residents and involve them in our work. Local Atlanta Service Platoons and fellows will continue the efforts at Quest after the day is complete - our hope is that Quest Veterans will be inspired to serve again, but next time as platoon members.
We appreciate your support and your time. Volunteers are welcome to work for all or a portion of the project day
