Oahu Platoon

Event overview

In honor of Veterans Day 2017, the platoon is turning its attention to our Veteran families...and helping where we're needed most. We hope you will join us this November 5th, 2017. We will be helping out Fisher Houses I&II outside spaces with attention to the Gazebo's, decking, and gardening area's. Tripler Fisher Houses The Fisher House Foundation currently has donated 65 Fisher Houses throughout the continental United States as well as two in Hawaii, one in Alaska and two in Germany. We have two beautifully decorated homes located above the backside of Tripler Army Medical Center that can accommodate 19 families at any one time. We stay at 100% occupancy while maintaining a waiting list for those incoming patients & their families. Our priority is combat wounded, life or death regardless of where they come, then as their medical severity dictates. We work to accommodate as many families as possible. While we can not assist everyone we have partnered with the IHG hotel located on Tripler to assist with our overflow while they are on our waitlist, these families can receive a reduced rate. Please check with the Fisher House manager for more details and assistance. Eligibility to stay in our homes depends on the PATIENT'S enrollment in DEERS. ALL OUTPATIENTS staying at the Fisher House are REQUIRED to have a Non Medical Attendant, regardless of what you are being treated for, no exceptions. Each family will receive one room with a private bathroom. All guests are encouraged to take advantage of the rest of the house. Common areas include the living room, family room, dining room as well as a beautiful spacious kitchen, laundry room and lanai with a million dollar view. The unique thing about these homes is that the families are not only guests, but volunteers who will be responsible for the upkeep of the home during their stay, as if it were their own home. There is no maid service or room service available. The intent is to create a nurturing homelike atmosphere that fosters rehabilitative opportunities to reintegrate the patients and families back into their normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
