Veterans in Service:The Mission Continues add a new meaning to service

Jan 21, 2025

Throughout the month-long Veterans Day campaign, Veterans in Service, The Mission Continues brought together veterans and community members to drive change and foster lasting community bonds. With the support of community partners, sponsors, and dedicated volunteers, our Service Platoons led 44 events in 41 cities welcoming more than 500 volunteers and completing 2,462 combined hours of community service. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported these efforts! Let’s take a moment to recap some of the notable projects that took place during this inspiring initiative.

Killeen

Under the leadership of Platoon Leader Juanita Myers, the service project at Girls Scouts of Central Texas was a resounding success for the Killeen Platoon. Veterans and volunteers rallied to support beautifying their outdoor recreational space, repairing the privacy fence, building new picnic tables, refurbishing a gazebo, and assisting the Girl Scout troops in constructing a fire pit.

NYC

Daquane Mays, serving as the New York Platoon Leader, led an impactful service project at Roberto Clemente Community Garden in Highbridge. Through their efforts, volunteers fostered a sense of purpose, connection, and growth among those who have served our country. Tasks for the day included painting a gazebo, repairing the compost bin towards the drop-off in the garden, leveling and painting a stage in the middle of the garden, finished setting the garden and garden beds, and weeded the drop-off area of the garden.

These are just a few examples of the impactful community service projects that took place during the Veterans in Service campaign. In cities across the country, veterans and community members united to make a tangible difference in their communities. Through community service projects, veterans formed lasting bonds and found purpose in their transition to civilian life. The impact of this initiative will extend beyond the projects themselves, shaping and strengthening communities for years to come.

We are grateful for our presenting sponsors, Navy Federal Credit Union, T-mobile, and BAE Systems in supporting our shared vision of empowering veterans and transforming communities. Together, we have shown the power of collaboration and the potential of veterans to make a positive difference.
