OMCS DAY 3: A Day of Service at Democracy Prep at Stewart Campus

Nov 19, 2024

June 23, 2024 marked the third day of Operation Military City Salute, a day filled with energy, purpose, and transformation at Democracy Prep at the Stewart Campus Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas. The Mission Continue volunteers came together once again to roll up their sleeves and make a lasting impact on the campus, helping to create a brighter, more inviting space for both students and staff.

A School with a Vision

Democracy Prep at the Stewart Campus is a beacon of hope and opportunity for its students. As the newest addition to the Democracy Prep family in Texas, the school focuses on preparing young minds not just for academic success but for a lifetime of civic engagement. With a deep commitment to values like critical thinking, social justice, and civic responsibility, the school nurtures every student, empowering them to become thoughtful leaders in their communities.

The Stewart Campus is more than just a place for learning; it’s a hub where students are encouraged to explore their potential, think critically, and engage in hands-on learning experiences. With a team of dedicated educators, staff, and community partners, the school is committed to unlocking the full potential of every child and shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

A Day of Transformation

Thanks to the volunteers and veterans who dedicated their time and efforts on Day 3 of Operation Military City Salute, several important projects were completed that will improve both the appearance and functionality of the campus. The results are already being celebrated!

Some of the key projects completed during this day included:

  • Beautifying the Outdoor Area: One of the most exciting updates on the Stewart Campus was the revitalization of the outdoor areas. Volunteers worked hard to beautify the campus grounds, turning them into a welcoming environment for students, teachers, and visitors. The improved outdoor spaces provide an inviting area for students to take breaks, play, and engage in educational activities.

  • Brightening Indoor Gathering and Recreation Areas: Inside the school, several indoor areas received a refresh that will make a big difference in how students and staff experience their daily routines. The walls of the school’s gathering and recreation areas were freshly repainted, giving the spaces a brighter, more vibrant feel. These areas, which serve as places for students to relax, collaborate, and participate in group activities, now have a welcoming atmosphere that encourages creativity, conversation, and connection. The improvements are designed to inspire both students and staff to take pride in their surroundings, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.

  • Adding Additional Seating for Students and Teachers: In addition to beautifying the campus, volunteers focused on adding more seating throughout the school, ensuring that both students and teachers have comfortable spaces to engage with one another. The extra seating not only improves the flow of the campus but also creates more opportunities for collaboration and interaction. Whether it’s for group discussions, quiet reading, or teacher planning sessions, the new seating options are designed to make the school a more functional and inclusive space for everyone.

The Impact of Service: A Lasting Legacy

The projects completed on Day 3 of Operation Military City Salute go far beyond aesthetic improvements—they represent a deep investment in the future of the students at Democracy Prep at the Stewart Campus. The work done by veterans and volunteers ensures that the campus will be a place where students feel inspired, valued, and empowered. It’s about creating an environment that fosters learning, growth, and community—a space that reflects the values of Democracy Prep and provides students with the foundation they need to become the leaders of tomorrow.
