CARMAX, THE MISSION CONTINUES JOIN FORCES FOR DAY OF SERVICE IN PHOENIX

VETERANS & VOLUNTEERS TEAM UP TO TACKLE PROJECTS AT GARDEN OF TOMORROW IN SUPPORT OF TIGER MOUNTAIN FOUNDATION

PHOENIXDec. 9, 2024 Military veteran nonprofit The Mission Continues (TMC) and long-time strategic partner CarMax are teaming up this Wednesday, Dec. 11, to tackle a series of projects in a Greater Phoenix community as part of a Dedicated Day of Service.

Taking place at the Garden of Tomorrow with dedicated community partner the Tiger Mountain Foundation, CarMax associates are teaming up with TMC’s veterans, volunteers, and community members for a variety of revitalization projects at this vital communal garden space on Phoenix’s south side. For TMC Phoenix Platoon Leader, Gary Streeter, this project is symbolic of the long-time collaboration between partners that demonstrates how a community can come together to support one another.

“We’ve been working with Tiger Mountain Foundation for many years now, even here at the Garden of Tomorrow, and I’ve always been impressed with their dedication to not only allowing TMC to come in and support the work they need done, but to roll up their sleeves with us and do the work together,” Streeter said. “And now with the support of a dedicated partner like CarMax, we feel very fortunate that this mission is likely going to advance further than we’ve seen it done before.”

CarMax and The Mission Continues have been partners since 2015, and that commitment extends far beyond financial contributions. Since 2016, nearly 1,700 CarMax associates have volunteered to support TMC’s mission, bringing their energy and dedication to service projects across the country. Over the years, dedicated CarMax associates have volunteered nearly 8,000 hours, creating more than $266,000 in additional economic impact.

“CarMax embodies all the aspirational qualities that we hope to have in a strategic partner,” said La Costa Moore, Interim Chief Executive Officer of The Mission Continues. “They lead by example of what it means to support our nation’s veterans and communities by showing up to donate, activate, and advocate for this vital mission, and we couldn’t feel more fortunate to have them beside us in all phases.”

By supporting TMC’s Service Platoon Program, CarMax has contributed to a successful 2024 thus far that has seen nearly 8,000 TMC volunteers attend more than 600 service projects, leading to an estimated $1,228,036 in economic impact through nearly 37,000 volunteer hours in our nation’s under-resourced communities. This week’s recipient of the dedicated collaboration is the Phoenix Service Platoon, which hopes to host 150 volunteers at the Garden of Tomorrow.

“Our work with The Mission Continues demonstrates our unwavering commitment to providing community support and career opportunities to our military service members, veterans, and their families,” said Leslie Parpart, Assistant Vice President, CarMax Community and Inclusion. “Additionally, CarMax associates are proud to team up with veterans and the communities they serve, working together to foster thriving neighborhoods.”
