Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy of Service Together with Raytheon Technologies 

Across the country, veterans and non-veteran volunteers from our service platoons have joined forces with Raytheon Technologies to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by serving in our communities to address a wide range of challenges including neighborhood revitalization, food insecurity, and educational inequality. The company’s support as a campaign sponsor of Legacy of Service is critical in helping The Mission Continues create pathways to success for veterans like those who serve in our service platoons and the Women Veterans Leadership Program.  

Partners like Raytheon Technologies not only show up financially with support but double their impact by empowering their employees to serve side by side with veterans and community members. This type of partnership is exactly what helps our veterans grow and our communities feel supported. 

The month-long #LegacyOfService campaign brings veterans and volunteers of all backgrounds in over 40 cities nationwide together to continue the lessons of selfless service to others, as taught by Dr. King. The company’s employees showcased their passion to serve by volunteering alongside veterans from their local communities.

In the Washington DC area, veterans and volunteers provided some necessary revitalization and upkeep to Sousa Middle School, a place of learning with a long-standing reputation for developing its students into upstanding members of this proud DC community. As part of an extra effort to provide the students with some additional needed resources, all veterans and volunteers were asked to bring gently used coats, hats, and gloves for students.

In Virginia, veterans and volunteers from the Richmond Platoon served alongside Raytheon Technologies’ employees in Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond’s oldest and largest historic African American cemetery. The veteran-led service platoon built benches and trash receptacles and cleared overgrowth for a new memorial garden. 

In Colorado, veterans and volunteers from the Denver Platoon and the company’s employees teamed up with Food Bank of the Rockies, the 15th largest food bank in the United States, to pack food boxes for future distribution in the local community. 

Since 2020, our partnership with Raytheon Technologies has fueled our service platoons, the Women Veterans Leadership Program, and the organization’s capacity for growth and national impact. Our service platoon program and the WVLP have been a place where veterans can learn to lead and have a like-minded group to network with and rely upon. The company has lent their support and expertise by participating in panel discussions about leadership best practices from global organizations during these engagement opportunities.
