Rich with demographic diversity, green spaces, and waterfront property, Baybrook in Baltimore City is battling a 32% poverty rate, heroin usage and the subsequent drug-related crimes, a growing sex worker trade, an ineffective public transportation system that poorly connects the city and county sides of the community, a food desert reality, and the decaying remnants of a congested industrial presence that leaves much of the waterfront inaccessible to the general public and neighborhood residents.

Baltimore 2nd Platoon - scheduled to relaunch in July 2018 in a new part of the city under a new mission - will leverage their veteran leaders, dedicated volunteers, and resources to support City of Refuge, BUILD, and the Greater Baybrook Alliance in their efforts to create safe play areas for kids, commandeer abandoned lots for food-growing purposes, and transform existing - but neglected - parks into gathering spaces worthy of community pride.
