Brownsville, Brooklyn is currently known as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York City. Unfortunately, that isn’t a correct representation of Brownsville. The neighborhood had its struggles with gang violence and crime in the past but residents and community members are working to change the perception of Brownsville.

The Brooklyn Platoon is collaborating with Partnerships for Park and Community Solutions – Brownsville Initiative to help change that perception. On Veterans Day 2016, the New York City service platoons worked together to transform Osborne Playground into a more accessible and safe place for youth in Brownsville to play. In 2017, the Brooklyn Platoon will be conducted multiple service days to change Bronwsville and in 2018, we continued that work.

In 2019, Brooklyn Platoon is working to re-imagine and reinvent spaces and places in the Bronwsville to strengthen connection between the people and places they share to support an evolution of what the community is known for.

Join us as the Brooklyn Platoon works to change the perception of Brownsville in impact the lives of its residents!
