Rich with demographic diversity, green spaces, and waterfront property, Baybrook in Baltimore City is battling a 32% poverty rate, heroin usage and the subsequent drug-related crimes, a growing sex worker trade, an ineffective public transportation system that poorly connects the city and county sides of the community, a food desert reality, and the decaying remnants of a congested industrial presence that leaves much of the waterfront inaccessible to the general public and neighborhood residents.

Baltimore Platoon is dedicated to improving the schools and public spaces of Harlem Park West through community driven, volunteer engagement.

Following the death of Freddie Gray in 2015 and the consequential civil unrest, neighbors and community organizations banded together to begin restoring the identity and prosperity of Harlem Park.

Baltimore Platoon works closely with Roots & Branches School and the Harlem Park West Neighborhood Association to help tackle some of the neighborhoods' most challenging issues through sacrifice, service, and camaraderie.

Baltimore Platoon will leverage their veteran leaders, dedicated volunteers, and resources to support City of Refuge, BUILD, and the Greater Baybrook Alliance in their efforts to create safe play areas for kids, commandeer abandoned lots for food-growing purposes, and transform existing - but neglected - parks into gathering spaces worthy of community pride.
