ON BEHALF OF THE MISSION CONTINUES:All scheduled projects will be postponed for the remainder of March. During this hiatus, we will take the necessary steps to ensure that our service project sites are equipped with ample hygienic supplies and recommended best containment practices are broadly communicated. In the days and weeks ahead, we will actively monitor and discuss when it is advisable to resume normal service project operations, as well as explore opportunities to support our communities in alternative (and safe) ways, as they grapple with the impact of COVID-19. The Communications team is working with Regional Operations and will provide talking points for your use with program participants, volunteers and community partners. As COVID-19 continues to spread across the United States we are closely monitoring the latest guidance and recommendations from public health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We understand the valid concern arising in conjunction with the ever-changing state of this pandemic. The health and safety of our program participants, staff, guests and community partners is of paramount importance to us. Our mission is an important one, but there is nothing more important than the safety of our team and supporters. With an abundance of caution, scheduled service and support projects, as well as social events, will be postponed for the remainder of March. Our regional teams are working with local community partners to reschedule when prudent. During this hiatus we will take the necessary steps to ensure that our service project sites are equipped with ample hygienic supplies and recommended best containment practices are broadly communicated and adhered to. We recognize this may be disappointing news, but given the fluidity of the spread and available information regarding the best way to support containment, we believe this proactive step is in the best interest of our veterans, volunteers and community partners. We know that the communities we serve are often disproportionately impacted by the downstream effects of illness including access to critical care, workplace disruption, school closings and access to childcare--all of which are becoming realities in communities with COVID-19 outbreaks. In the days and weeks ahead, we will actively monitor and discuss when it is advisable to resume normal service project operations, as well as explore opportunities to support our communities in alternative (and safe) ways, as they grapple with the impact of COVID-19. We look forward to a great slate of Earth Day projects in April and as we continue our planning, we are working to ensure the most effective health, safety and sanitary precautions and practices are in place to keep everyone protected at our service events. We will continue to communicate early and often about any changes that lead to an alteration of our plans.
