DC5 Platoon's kick-off community build day, Great Hornet Garden Reboot, is fast approaching and set for March 11th. We have a TON of partnerships for this event, and we are doing everything we can to support the kids. The school's administration is inviting the ENTIRE 5th-grade class! Here are the Team Areas we're working for build day: - Lean Green Garden Machine (Kevin, Antoinette) - Community Outreach (Alliy) - Nature Exploratory Classroom (EJ, Oscar) - Inside Job (Rose) - Outdoor Classroom (Mike) What our partners are bringing: Our friends at Serve DC have graciously offered to bring the items for the community BBQ as well as a DJ to keep the energy flowing! Washington Youth Garden is supplementing our materials list. For volunteers working in one of the Team Areas, Wounded Warrior Project is hooking us all up with some tasty pizza! UPO is bringing the grill, and it's gonna be LIT! Context: We're teaming up with the Washington Youth Garden again to work towards inspiring the kids at Hendley Elementary School as well as the surrounding community to learn about our relationships with food by understanding where it originates. We're also striving to help connect kids to the natural world through our Nature Exploratory Classroom build which will be used as a learning resource and as a place for self-exploration and personal growth. The Washington Youth Garden has a weekly presence, and a specific curriculum at Hendley and I have personally witnessed how positively the kids react to Michelle, the current Garden Manager. As a bonus, Rose from DC4 is collaborating with us and plans on repainting all the stairs inside the school and creating multiplication tables on the risers. Who: It's the efforts of you, your family, and friends that create the impact. And everyone's contributions matter. When we get together, we crush it. Here's a quote from the Washington Youth Garden that exemplifies this sentiment from our recent support project looking ahead to March 11th, "We're really about the Build Day, (Farmer) Jake was so impressed by your work at the demo garden." Let's keep the momentum going! DC5 needs you on March 11th. We're also seeking Team Leaders. Please reach out to me via email (top right-hand side of this page) to accept the challenge!
