COVID-19 has exposed and exacerbated the underlying fragility of our social support systems, including food security and depleted the volunteer forces that typically support this work. As a result, more Americans are going hungry and our institutions are struggling to keep up. Furthermore, more than 1.5 million veterans live in a household that completely relies on SNAP to supplement their food intake. As a result, organizations like Mission United of Miami-Dade, are ready to support our veterans by supplying them food. In support of Operation Nourish, the Miami Platoon is partnering up with United Way Mission United of Miami-Dade to deliver food to our veterans homes around the Miami area. Please join us on July 21st, to help feed veterans in the Miami-Dade area. Location: 3195 SW 3rd Avenue, Miami, Fl 33129 (The Empowerment Building) Time: 9:30am-11:30am to pick up boxes of food from Mission United and then deliver to veteran homes. Special instructions: Parking for the event will be in the Mission United parking lot. The first 10 volunteers to sign up for this event will receive a $15 gas card to off set the delivery costs. Extra information: Part of our distribution will be volunteers picking up to deliver to veterans houses while a second group will be doing bulk drop offs at several Apartment buildings where Veterans reside. If any volunteer have a large truck and would like to support the delivery at the Veteran housing facilities, please contact Rasheem Howell at Mission United to coordinate.
