Event overview

To keep the spirit of Earth Day alive all year, TMC and Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Outdoor Spaces, along with the Miami Dolphins, are getting together virtually on June 6th at 12:00pm (noon) to host the first part of a two-part service project for the A.D. Barns Restoration Project. In the wake of COVID-19 many local plant nurseries are losing vital native plants due to insufficient staffing. We are asking our families to step up and foster some amazing Florida native plants, in a paint and plant project. Those that register for this event (1 kit per household) will receive: two – 1-gallon Florida native plant species, paint, brushes, and two 3-gallon pots. You will be painting the 3-gallon pots prior to the zoom meeting and then sharing your fantastic artistic skills on the call. On June 6th, join us on Zoom to learn about these amazing native plants from a Miami-Dade County Parks staff member, why these plants are vital to our Florida ecosystem, and how the plants will make an impact in the A.D. Barnes Restoration Project and our ecosystem. At a later date (TBD), those that registered to foster a plant will be invited to participate in the phase two service project at A.D. Barnes Park to conclude the restoration project, by transplanting those native species being temporarily fostered during COVID-19. The intention of this project is to engage veterans and their support system virtually during COVID-19, support our local ecosystem, educate on the importance of environmental stewardship, and support an under-resourced community in the Miami-Dade County area.
