Let's celebrate strong women as we volunteer along side one another during Women's History Month! We will experience the national park in our own backyard, discover the military history of our national parks and connect with inspiring women in our community. Not just empowered, but empowHER! This volunteer event is put on with thanks to the San Antonio Food Bank. In a unique partnership with the National Park Service, the SA Food Bank manages 45 acres of crops at Mission San Juan. In addition, 5 acres act as a historic demonstration garden to educate Mission visitors. The Food Bank uses irrigation from the 300 year old acequia, replicating the traditional farming methods of the Mission inhabitants. Farm tasks will vary seasonally but volunteers most frequently aid in planting, transplanting, harvesting, weeding, and mulching. Please be sure to wear appropriate attire such as closed toed shoes and bring water. NOTE: Open to all but this is a FEMALE FOCUSED EVENT - veterans, active military or civilians! We will be helping the San Antonio Food bank with their farm so please bring a water bottle and wear close toed shoes
