Operation Nourish: Houston Foodbank with the Astros Foundation
Please note: If you are feeling sick, have had any COVID symptoms which include fever, cough and shortness of breath in the past 14 days, or identify as having a higher risk for severe illness please stay home and be safe. While we encourage participation for those that are low-risk and in good health, we ask everyone, irrespective of age and health status, to adopt extra safety measures. We welcome you to join any of our virtual service events and look forward to seeing you healthy at a future project.
Platoon Leaders will ensure the safety of our volunteers, partners and the community by implementing safety protocols and procedures . Please contact the event organizer if you have any questions.
The Houston Food Bank requires all volunteers to sign a waiver. After you register online, you will receive a confirmation email with a QR code that you can use to scan in that day. You can print out the QR code or show it on your phone.
If you are having trouble, don't worry. You can sign a wavier on site.
Please plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled volunteer shift so you can check in, receive instructions and start on time. If you arrive after the start of your shift, you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for orientation and assignment. If members of your group arrive late, we cannot guarantee they will be able to join you in your assigned project area.
Description of Duties: Varies with the makeup volunteers for shift. Most of the projects at the warehouse involve inspection, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.
Attire Information: Closed-toe shoes REQUIRED - smashed toes are no fun, so we strongly enforce this safety precaution. Casual dress, long pants (preferred), t-shirt with sleeves.
