Do you have a green thumb? Do you want to "grow one" and give back to your community during this time when you can't get out and physically help?
We need 20-25 volunteers willing to grow at least 20 vegetable or herb plants in their homes now, so we can have them ready to go into community gardens within the DC area when we get back to work.
DC. 3rd Plt will purchase a kit and send it to you, you will then need to set up the kit in your home and grow 20 plants over the next 6-8 weeks. Once we go back to work in our community gardens we will ask you to bring the plants for the garden.
Gardening reminds us of our connection to nature, and helps us focus on the bigger picture, which can alleviate symptoms of depression. Also, the physical aspect of gardening releases feel-good chemicals in the brain such as serotonin and dopamine. Finally, working with soil makes us happier and we need something right now that will help us be happier.
We will be using our DC Facebook page to communicate your progress and show pictures of your plants, ask questions, and share tips. Each volunteer will be ask to sign up with our FB page. If you do not have FB and want to participate you still can we will ask you correspond your updates so we can post the pics, questions or tips on our FB page.

Certain host organizations, such as schools, may prohibit volunteers with certain types of criminal convictions from participating in a service project. Accordingly, The Mission Continues is requesting your consent to conduct a criminal background check in the event that your Platoon is engaging in a service project with a host organization that requires a criminal background check. By checking the box below, you authorize The Mission Continues to conduct a criminal background check.
If such a background check is required, it will be completed and used in accordance with applicable law. The Mission Continues does not automatically disqualify persons from Platoons based on criminal convictions. We want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to move forward in their lives through service, at the same time that we seek to protect the communities we serve together.
