Event overview

Join San Antonio 1st Platoon as we celebrate Earth Day with our friends at Gardopia Gardens! Earth Day marks the initiation of the modern environmental movement to embrace nature and its value. This years celebrations also marks Gardopia Gardens' fundraising kickoff event, Vote Earth! Vote Earthis collaborative, eco-friendly event to include a service project, bike riding tour and a podcast! In 2019, we are expanding Gardopia Gardens livestock program by adding goat structures and completing the conversion of an outdoor kitchen into an indoor classroom kitchen. We will start the day with some landscaping and cleanup of brush, to be followed by organizing scrap wood and planting in 3 large hugel mounds. To further honor Earth Day, lunch will be an arrangement of plant based foods and snacks, including some pickings from our very own, Gardopia Gardens. Following the service event (from 4 to 10 pm), we will join the Vote Earth Bike Ride to tour multiple gardens: Ella Austin Community Garden, Woodard Park, and Gardopia Gardens. This bike tour will include planting of trees and flowers along the way. (Separate registration for Vote Earth will be posted here soon.) Lastly, Kinyo of Project Forward will host a podcast at Burleson Yard Beer Garden.
