Keep Growing Detroit exists to promote a food sovereign city where the majority of fruits and vegetables Detroiters consume are grown by residents. THINK SPRING and come volunteer with members of the community and Detroit 2nd Platoon in support of KGD for an upcoming seed packing event! Each year Garden Resource Program members help pack seeds which are distributed to gardens all across the city. This is a great event for all ages and abilities and provides essential help in preparation for the growing season while the snow is still falling! More About Keep Growing Detroit: KGD operates a number of nationally recognized programs including the Garden Resource Program (GRP), which supports a network of 1,600 urban gardens and farms and Grown in Detroit (GID), which provides more than 70 urban gardeners with opportunities to sell the fruits and vegetables they grow at local market outlets. Staff also operate the Keep Growing Detroit Farm, a 2-acre urban farm and teaching facility located in the heart of the Eastern Market District. Keep Growing Detroit serves residents of Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck. The 1,600 urban gardens and farms it supports within these communities produce more than 200 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables reaching nearly 24,000 residents annually.
