Sunshine State Boricua Build

On the weekend before Veteran’s Day, Nov. 3rd 2018, The Mission Continues Orlando 1st & 2nd Service Platoons will host more than 100 volunteers coming together from across the Sunshine State to support victims of both Hurricanes Maria and Michael. When Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico last year, thousands of families were forced to evacuate to Central Florida with only their most personal possessions in tow, meaning many left behind heavier items such as furniture in the process. Now, one year later, as they transition out of short-term emergency housing and into more stable long-term housing, we have an opportunity to help bring a sense of dignity and normalcy back to these families. So, for the first time ever, all six of our FL Service Platoons (Orlando’s 1st & 2nd, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, and Broward County) will be joining forces for an amazing day of service! We This project will directly support Puerto Rico evacuee families in Orlando and Hurricane Michael victims in the panhandle. The project will include: PUERTO RICO SUPPORT - Building 100 new pieces of furniture for families (dining room tables, chairs and desks) - Creating 100 "Welcome Home Baskets" for families (linens, childrens books, cleaning supplies and home essentials) - Refurbishing old furniture donated from our partner Goodwill - Repairing 50 bikes for donation with local nonprofit Rusty's Bicycle Recycle HURRICANE MICHAEL SUPPORT - Completing 1,000+ hygiene kits with Clean the World to send to the panhandle to support families after Hurricane Michael.
