Event overview

Japhet Creek is the last stream into Buffalo Bayou on the east side of downtown that hasn't been covered or channeled. The area flooded during Harvey leaving behind trash along the banks of the creek as well as the mulch being washed away from the trails. Japhet Creek continues to be cleaned and maintained by neighborhood volunteers, will not only benefit the longtime residents of the Fifth Ward and Denver Harbor areas, but also the new townhome communities in the eastside. Having a natural green space such as Japhet Creek, a short walk or bike ride away, will improve the quality of life in these neighborhoods. The park is often used by science teachers and students for environmental studies. Learn more about the ongoing efforts at https://www.japhetcreek.org/ Goals: 1. Move logs to the side of trails 2. Clean up the creek from debris left behind by Harvey flood waters 3. Build a ramp to the tool container 4. Add mulch to the trail that was washed away by Harvey flood waters 5. Pull weeds and cut overgrown vegetation 6. Paint the flower bed container 7. Remove overgrown vines on trees
