Event overview

Between October 13th and 15th over 100 veterans from The Mission Continues will come together in Houston for a weekend of training and service. On October 14th, our veterans and community members will mobilize for a high-impact community service project that will help recovery efforts in the Independence Heights community. Due to Hurricane Harvey, 60% of homes in this community were severely impacted. With the help of the Independence Heights Redevelopment Council and local partners, we will help this community recover with the following projects listed below. We will also have a resource fair led by the Independence Heights Redevelopment Council and a donation drive to help the children in the community. To thank you for your hard work, we’ll feed you at our block party in Independence Heights from 5 –7 pm with music from the Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society. We need volunteers for the following projects: Greater First Missionary Baptist Church Disaster Center- Need help sorting supplies and helping residents with donations Kid's Corner- Need help sorting donations for kids Updating the neighborhood playground Updating Welcome Center museum Beautifying neighborhood park Donation Drive: Help Operation Independence kids by donating: Gift Cards Movie Passes Earphones Newborn Diapers Toddler Toys We look forward to a great event and hope to see you out there!
