In partnership with the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation(SWBCDC), we aim to begin to lay the groundwork for future development of the Doyle Playground green space in Hyde Park. Together with community volunteers we will remove invasive species, cut down overgrown trees and then wood chip the branches/trucks, remove pavement debris from a recent removal effort, and prep the area for loam and grass seeding in the coming weeks. In addition, there will be some discussion about a design for a future mural project onsite. Because we will have the wood chipper and potentially other larger equipment on-site, this service project is not recommended for young children.

What To Wear
Comfortable, durable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and some sturdy sneakers or work boots. Also, bringing work gloves and wearing a long sleeve shirt could help protect your skin against thorns, slivers, and such during invasive species removal. Weather this time of year means that temperatures should be around 60 degrees so dress appropriately because all of our work will take place outside.
What to Bring
Sunscreen and hats are highly encouraged and a way to stay hydrated is a must! If you have work gloves and outdoor tools--rake, shovel, lopper, etc.--please bring them as well.
