Volunteers in Salt Lake City are wrapping up a week of service that extended from Los Angeles to Boston, Massachusetts. Veteran, civilian, active-duty service members and military family volunteers united for 38 community service projects addressing key educational, safety and environmental issues. Thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors including Target, Goldman Sachs, and ABC/Disney, volunteers were equipped to tackle even the most daunting of project demands.
The week of service kicked-off in Anaheim, California, where over 100 volunteers renovated a local veterans housing facility. In all, volunteers painted three housing complexes, replaced screens and windows, built two rock gardens, and added a lighted path around the facility. In Houston, Texas, volunteers provided a much needed clean up to an elementary schools by painting, building benches, cleaning classrooms, and landscaping the school grounds.
On Sunday, over 200 volunteers from across the northeast descended upon the Rockaways, a community in Queens, New York severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Represented by a number of Fellows, staff members, and the chairman of the board, The Mission Continues helped lead the recovery and rebuilding project, providing direct assistance to those still in need following the storm.
