AmeriCorps VISTA

Serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA at The Mission Continues

By serving an AmeriCorps VISTA at The Mission Continues, you will be volunteering your time and energy in support of the organization's mission to challenge veterans to serve and inspire in communities across America. VISTA's have provided capacity building support across multiple teams. VISTA's have been responsible for planning and recruiting for large scale community service projects across the country, recruiting post-9/11 veterans into the Fellowship Program, and managing online communications including social media channels.

AmeriCorps VISTA positions at The Mission Continues are provided by American Legion Auxiliary Call to Service Corps. Prior to starting at The Mission Continues, you will attend a Pre-Service Orientation where you will learn more about the program and have the opportunity to network with other new VISTA's in the Midwest.

What is AmeriCorps VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Authorized in 1964 and founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993. VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 45 years.

What VISTA Members Do

VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you'll create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

The Benefits of VISTA Service

By serving through VISTA, you'll gain new skills, friends, and experiences - plus you'll get the satisfaction that comes from helping others. During your service, you'll also receive a modest living allowance, health care, and other benefits. And, upon completing your service, you can choose to receive either a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or post-service stipend.
