Moses Maddox was born and raised in Forth Worth, Texas. After graduating high school, Moses stepped on the famed yellow footprints at MCRD San Diego to begin his journey as United States Marine. Moses served 8 years in the Marine Corps as a Financial Management Specialist, and served two tours in Iraq: the first tour in 2004 as a Mortuary Affairs Specialist, the second tour in 2006 as a Civil Affairs Specialist. After his second tour, Moses separated from the Marine Corps. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
Transitioning from military life to civilian life was difficult for Moses, as he struggled with PTSD, employment issues, and learning how to interact with people not affiliated with the military. During his struggles he discovered a need to connect with a community of veterans, and began working on his college campus to establish a place where veterans can come together and support each other on campus. He began working to establish a home for veterans on campus. Through this, Moses discovered his passion for helping veterans. Additionally, Moses worked in the veteran’s office at Palomar College and the financial aid office at California State University-San Marcos, assisting veterans with both the GI Bill and financial aid.
Moses moved to St Louis from San Diego to join The Mission Continues family because he believes, just like The Mission Continues, that through service veterans find renewed strength and purpose while building stronger communities. He holds the deep belief that our veterans are assets whose leadership is needed now more than ever here at home.
